How to Select the Best E-Collar

Shock collars are selected based on dog temperament (receiver power) and transmit range. Determine your dog's sensitivity to correction: Is your dog highly sensitive to mild corrections, very high-drive and likely to ignore discomfort when focused, or somewhere in between?

The transmit range is line-of-sight, meaning anything between the remote and receiver collar—such as hills, trees, buildings, or adverse weather—can reduce the effective range.

Receiver Collar Power Categories

• Low Power – Smallest receivers designed for softer-tempered dogs sensitive to corrections.
• Low to Medium Power – Suitable for dogs with soft to normal temperaments. Approximately 90% of dogs fit into this category.
• Low to High Power – For stubborn, high-drive dogs needing stronger stimulation. Levels 1-50 are similar to low to medium power units but deliver approximately 40% more power after level 50.

Higher-output receiver collars are larger, accommodating longer internal antennas and greater transmit range.
